Cultural Cruise

Cruising.
A bit of a culture cruise last Sunday on a ride around town with Brad and Pete. First destination was the wonderful Irie Taikichi Museum Of Photography...

Afternoon at the museum.
Locked.
After taking in the photography of Taikichi Irie we rode back into town...

Cool dudes.
...For the obligatory coffee and cake stop...

Coffee + Cake = Rock!
After that, a climb up to the edge of town...

Up high.
...To visit the beautiful Byakugo-ji Temple...

Byakugo-ji.

...And take in the stunning views across Nara...

Sundown.
Kofuku-ji in the distance.
Watching the sun go down and the rain come in...

A darkness on the edge of town.
Cheers to Brad and Pete for a fun and sophistcated afternoon. Apologies to both for the somewhat unnecessary climbs along the way!

Weekly Pictures

September brings rain and wind to Nara, hence the lack of recent posts. Just a few shots here from the last week...

A near deserted deer park on a wet afternoon.

One of the saddest casualties we have seen, abandoned in Osaka.
Just some shika making their way down river in Nara.
A rest before the climb on a local Nara ride.
Locked up at the Irie Taikichi photography museum, Nara.
Sunset over Namba, Osaka.
Grey skies over Todai-ji.
And finally the traditional shika shot. We ran into this deer gang as we were out shopping last week, you can see more of them over on our Flickr page.

Taikichi Irie Museum Of Photography

Irie Taikichi was a celebrated Japanese photographer who was committed to photographing Nara.
The Nara city Museum Of Photography  is dedicated to his work. Today, on a beautifully sunny summer day, we took a ride to see the latest exhibition which focuses on Irie's early work from the 1940's up to the 1970's.
Located close to the Shin-Yakushi-Ji temple it's a wonderful museum, well worth seeking out should you find yourself in Nara.
